Programme notes

Prometheus for Flutes was born out of my piece Prometheus for woodwind quintet, named after the mystic chord of Alexander Scriabin which I use as harmonic and melodic material. I developed a motif among all instruments creating phase "games" of rhythm between each instrument, leading to a section of suspended chords and small solos between each other (almost like a dialogue). After that section, the same motif appears again but, instead of being developed, it retrogrades and disintegrates until the end...

Written in 2014 as part of my Undergraduate Degree in Music — Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (PT).
