Subentender

€14.00

Premiere

02/05/2014 - Festival Peças Frescas 2014 - Jardim de Inverno - São Luiz Teatro Municipal (PT) - Margarida Pinheiro (Soprano), José Castela (Clarinet in B♭), Pedro Silva (Violoncello) and José Diogo Martins (Piano)

Programme Notes

When reading Ricardo Reis, the normal reader tries to understand Ricardo Reis, the author's perspective, but with this piece, I meant to combine silence and sound moments, the perspective of a composer as the reader's vision over the author's perspective. Instead of trying to understand Ricardo Reis, I tried to "Subentender" through music. Literature and music have always been connected, but in this piece, I looked to "loosen" a bit of music from the text thus creating a rich atmosphere from both the literary point of view and the musical point of view. Throughout the piece, it can be seen that both the music accompanies the text and the text accompanies the music, not so much emphasizing the stereotype that a voice within an ensemble, is a soloist.

Text by Fernando Pessoa - Ricardo Reis

Para ser grande, sê inteiro

Para ser grande, sê inteiro: nada
Teu exagera ou exclui.
Sê todo em cada coisa. Põe quanto és
No mínimo que fazes.
Assim em cada lago a lua toda
Brilha, porque alta vive
